Honoring the LGBTQ+ Community Today & Everyday

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

As Pride Month 2021 wraps up, we can’t help but reflect on the tremendous impact the LGBTQ+ community has had on culture, fashion, and even CARRA Hosiery. We couldn’t be more proud to see fashion innovators, regardless of sex, sexual orientaition, and gender identity, sporting our products as a part of self-expression!

We cannot forget that much of fashion and culture stems from queer designers and individuals. From Billy Porter, to Janelle Monae, to Sir Elton John himself, these iconic trendsetters showed the public what it was like to break barriers and truly be yourself. Did you know that fashion innovators Gianni Versace, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, and Marc Jacobs all identify as LGBTQ+?

However, while these individuals shook up the entertainment world, we must truly honor those who were behind the scenes, risking everything to express who they truly are in a deeply discriminatory world. Countless cultural moments are due to Black and Brown LGBTQ+ people, many who did not receive the credit they deserve. For example, slang (how many times have you said ‘YAAAS!’?), modern style, Ball culture, voguing (appropriated by Madonna herself), and being shady or ‘throwing shade’ all came from queer culture. Where would be without their creativity and resilience?

This month and every month, we honor LGBTQ+ individuals and their contributions to fashion and culture. The path has not been easy一from being forced to hide your true identity in fear, to Stonewall, to being able to love who you truly love, we honor you! Our brand stands tall, year round, for the equality for all individuals regardless of sex, sexual orientaition, and gender identity.

Happy Pride Month CARRA guys and girls!
